Springing ahead

I spent some time on Sunday preparing packages to send: quilt blocks for bees and fabric for a swap.  It always feels good to tie up loose ends!  And that's why I knew I just had to join Jacquie's Spring to Finish Challenge 2010.  And I decided to set reasonable goals for myself (for a change).  I decided that I could probably handle one task per week for a total of 6 loose ends tied up.

* Finish this (very) mini quilt made with leftovers from cutting triangles for my hexagon quilt.

*  Finish this mini quilt with Jennifer Paganelli fabrics.

 * Finish this Dollies Online quilt top, perhaps making it into a pillow sham for my daughter.

* And prepare backs for at least three of the quilt tops that are piling up at my house and Karen's.

Of course, now it occurs to me that I have seven quilt backs to make -- so one per week, plus one more for good measure.  Maybe I should do these first and then have fun with my little projects without the pile of quilt tops hanging over me.  Opinions?

  1. Well, first thing, go out and smell the peonies!!! Beautiful!! bring back many memories.

Now to the tops; I think your plan to do the backs first is VERY VERY Good. Get them out of the way and the rest can be enjoyed more AND you will still be finished finished finished.

  3. I hate to point out that you left something off your list. I didn't see:

    * Send Kaffe stars quilt top to Amy.

    Just an oversight, I'm sure.

  5. I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes lots of tops or flimsies and puts off the quilting part.

  6. You certainly do have some finishes to complete. I would definitely get the not so enjoyable tasks out of the way first.

  7. Seems like your goals are reasonable. I agree that getting at least a couple of the quilt backs completed and out of the way is a good idea. The quilt tops are lovely which should make the task easier ;-) I love the first mini you showed.

  8. Looks like you have some very fun projects needing finishes! I definitely think start with the biggest and get them out of the way.
I've got to get my own list done--thanks for the reminder, and good luck!

  10. You have some gorgeous quilts, Joan. I loved seening them. I think getting the backings for your tops will be a great thing. I always like to make my binding too, so that when the quilt is finally quilted there is not dragging of feet to get it completely finished and enjoyed. Jacquie is so inspiring. Her blog was one of the first quilting blogs that I got hooked on. It is so fun that now she is the president of the KCMQG and I have gotten to know her personally a little bit! Lucky me!!

  11. I think it all sounds very reasonable for sure....and I would go with the quilt backs first. I don't know about you, but it's my least favorite part of the process, so I would knock that out first. That way I would have fun things to look forward to and to encourage me to get done.

  12. Too much gorgeousness (that would be the technical term) - what a nice problem to have :)
How about alternating a quilt back with a mini project as reward?

  13. Oh, you have such a great variety in your collection, they will all be beautiful finishes. I'd start with the one I want to see finished and used first! It will inspire you to keep going.

  14. Wow, you have so many beautiful quilt tops! I, too, would try to do the backs first. But I know me, after two or three backs I would take out one of the minis and work on it for a while...:-)

  15. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! What can I say your quilt tops are incredible. Maybe you need to set aside one day (if you can find a whole day anywhere!) to just make quilt backs, and see how many you get done, you might suprise yourself and get the lot done. By the way, Amy got it wrong, you are supposed to add: Send Kaffe stars quilt to Cathy!!! (sorry Amy!) xo

  16. Gorgeous quilt tops. Its amazing the number of quilts you've made in such a short time. Are you going to do pieced backs? If they're not too involved, you should be right. You'll have your work cut out for you though. I really should spring onto the band wagon too. I have three quilts I want to make over then next month (including patterns) and I haven't started yet! Yikes.

  18. I love how you put together your scraps from the hexie project and framed them. Great idea for artwork to hang on the wall! I would probably tackle the hardest or biggest projects first, especially the quilt backings. You have a gorgeous list to work on here!

  22. Get the easy ones out of the way first so you feel like you are accomplishing something.

  24. No opinions here! Everything looks beautiful & worthy of a finish...I know how awful it feels when UFO's are hanging about...but enjoy your last time with each of the projects as they are all really lovely. Enjoy those beautiful WIP's...I can see lot of finishes very soon! gorgeous flowers too.

  26. I'm sure there are too many tops there for you to manage Joan, just send one to me, one to Amy and one to Cathy, think of the ufo list going down, I'll look after it. Seriously beautiful goodies you have there. I love the mini quilt. Actually I'm not biased, I love them all.
